MARINA DEL REY, CA

We after tried to remember the trip between Monterey and Marina Del Rey but couldn't. All we recall is after rounding Pt. Conception the water flattened out and the sun appeared. Maybe Jim or Denise can interject if they like and we can update the page.

Dennis, who normally would not be caught dead being a tourist, took advantage of his situation and called an oil rig offshore pleading being a tourist from Oregon wanting to do a “sail by” their rig.  Amazing, we received an approval with the stipulation of not using any flashes on our camera because it would set off their fire sprinkler systems.  This rig was truly an incredible site.  It looked like something out of Stargate or Next Generation’s the “Borg Cube”.

Marina Del Rey was a very pleasant stop for us as our entry included a beautiful day and a welcome fit for a king thanks to Jean Adams, a cruising friend. Jean and her husband Scott live aboard MV Capricious part time at DRYC (Del Rey Yacht Club), as well as S/V Quest that at the time was docked in New Zealand awaiting their next adventure to Fiji.Linda had the opportunity last year to crew from New Zealand to Rarotonga,Cook Islands aboard S/V Quest last year…..(we know Linda is the weather disturbance due to the 3 gales in 12 days they endured). We were disappointed not to see Scott as he away in Texas. (Jean is at the left below with her brother and his wife towards the right.)

We commend the DRYC Yacht Club for their excellent hospitality. Members routinely offered us rides for grocery, marine and propane needs.  They checked on us making sure we were comfortable and often just to visit sharing their experiences or admiring Dennis’  dinghy davit/fishing/solar panel/stainless-steel arch design.  A special little lady comes to  mind who checked on us regularly, Lil Olander.

Lori (Linda’s sister), her son Bill and two daughters Chloe and Christie came by for dinner and a fun evening of spending time with family.  Bill, an up and coming very talented musician, played our guitar a beautiful Bach piece as we listened in awe!   (we are bad guest and didn't have pic's of their stay but soon to have them as they come down and visit us in PV this summer!)
