THE BOAT

RAPTURE is a HUNTER 460 that was purchased after owning a HUNTER 430,and a HUNTER 336. After my wife Linda, skippered an all-women crew in the Oregon Bridge to Bridge race on THE FIX (336) she was first to state she wanted a bigger boat for offshore passagemaking (Oh darn!...). So we began our search and ended up with the HUN 430. We ordered it from the factory in December of 1995 and it was delivered to Portland, OR on April 15th of 1996. Hull number 175. She was a fast but solid yacht with a stiff hull and rig. She sailed shorthanded or single-handed very easily. Having sailed her in a few offshore races and back and forth to the San Juan Islands, we really learned to appreciate the comfort. However we determined for our eventual retiring and cruising, we wanted more room for provisions and recreational equipment. So entered the 460!

We finally decided buying from CRUISING SPECIALIST in Alameda, CA. Our layout is with a dual cabin and a work room with washer dryer in the port aft cabin. We installed a Northern Lights 6 KW generator and a bow thruster. NELSON shipyard in Alameda did the bow thruster while CRUISING SPECIALIST installed the genset. The rig that was on the boat is that of a furling in-mast main which we didn't want. So we exchanged the next 466 to be delivered to C.S. for a full roached main and rig.
